Charter School Clusters

Charter Clusters Ensure High Quality

Rocketship believes that we should be able to grow within a region only if our schools demonstrate strong results in student academic achievement. To drive significant impact on academic performance and to create high quality, self-sustaining operations, Rocketship asks for upfront authorizer approval of a cluster of 8 charters to open within 5 years of the first school, contingent on the performance of Rocketship schools in that region. We are eager to work with partner regions and authorizers to set mutually agreed-upon academic performance targets.

Based on the track record of our first Rocketship School in San Jose, we obtained a similar commitment from Santa Clara County and local school districts. At present, Rocketship has opened five charter schools, with two more scheduled for fall 2012. This trust, balanced with accountability to our district and authorizing partners, was an essential component to Rocketship’s ability to scale successfully and to make a positive, lasting impact on the San Jose school district and community. To meet our objectives, Rocketship plans to apply through the school districts or other authorizing agencies of candidate regions which allow for an up-front approval of eight charters. We look to our regional partners to support us in ensuring a successful charter application.
