Overview

Our Program

Founded in 2006, Rocketship Education is a network of free, public K-5 college prep elementary charter schools. We are continuing to open schools in San Jose, CA as well as regions across the nation in order to achieve our mission to eliminate the achievement gap within our lifetimes. Some facts about our schools:

  • Grades K-5
  • Free public, open enrollment schools
  • 500 students per school
  • ~90% qualify for free / reduced meals
  • ~75% English as second language
  • Rigorous college preparatory focus


Our School Day:

  • Extended school day: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
  • Students have an opportunity for individualized learning each day through computer-based programs and small group tutoring in Learning Lab.
  • Project-based learning
  • Individual learning plans for each student
  • Each teacher specializes in either Humanities(English/Social Studies) or Math/Science
  • Enrichment programs in physical education, music, cultural diversity and art
  • Healthy school breakfasts and lunches from Revolution Foods

Individualized Learning

At Rocketship, we believe that every child deserves an excellent education, that every child can attend a four-year college, and that the path to college starts in kindergarten.

Since every child learns differently, Rocketship leverages individualized learning:

  • Teachers set high expectations for all students
  • Teachers work 1:1 and in small groups with students, to focus on specific learning needs
  • Frequent assessments enable teachers to spot learning challenges early, and to help students before they fall behind
  • Students receive 1:1 computer time every day and work with tutors, if needed, for additional support
  • Students master both basic skills and higher-order critical thinking skills through Learning Lab and excellent classroom instruction
